Digital transformation is a ground-breaking, foundational change how you connect and deliver services to your clients. It opens the door to automation, document tracking and dialogue with clients in ways that analogue never could.
Digital transformation works by predominantly using cloud computing over hardware to increase reliance on cloud-based services.
Using mercurial, new digital technology to solve problems isn’t a new concept. According to a recent survey, 44% of companies have already moved to a digital-first approach for customer experience, whilst 75% of global CEOs have started focusing on digital strategies to improve customer experience.* Going by these statistics alone, it is clear to see that companies the world over are evolving and recognising the myriad merits of digital transformation.
But is digital transformation for you, and why should you welcome it?
Embracing digital transformation and championing its capabilities to create leaner, smarter business models is the new economic reality that will set you apart from your competitors in 2020.
What can you do to facilitate the pathway of making your company more digitally transformative?
The first thing to do if you haven’t done so already, is make the move to the Cloud. ‘The future is bright, the future is cloudy’ somehow doesn’t have the same ring to it as that catchy mobile slogan of the noughties. Yet benefits of the Cloud include increased efficiency, decreased downtime, enhanced data security, flexibility and scalability to name but a few, making the move to the Cloud a no-brainer.
Secondly focus on the client experience. How do customers see your business, and how can you improve their view of it? Client perspective is key, and honing in on areas for development is the first step to ascertaining the foundation for digital transformation.
Thirdly analyse your data and glean insights into customer behaviour from it. You are unable to make progress without measurement, so quantify your progress to see the impact of transformation. Otherwise your efforts will be incalculable, unidentifiable and will result in nothing more than a waste of time.
Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) at your place of work might seem futuristic, however AI is already used by an increasing number of today’s workforce. Embedding AI into your work processes could remove repetitive tasks, increase efficiency and automate tasks. For example, programs would study documents and identify roadmaps, recognise processes and make intelligent assumptions therefore eliminating lack of error in the most efficient timescale possible.
Access rights, authentication and client characteristics all need to be factored in too, to propel adoption of your digital programs, after which you can expedite delivery using Agile, Continuous Testing and DevOps to maximum effect.
What is holding you back?
Legacy processes although familiar and comfortable could be an unexpected obstruction in your journey to digital transformation. A workplace culture that prohibits change can also hinder innovative thinking and digital transformation. The key is to have workforce in place that actively champions digital transformation. If key personnel are not on board with the movement towards digital transformation, it is worth doing a deep dive to try and ascertain why resistance exists. It could be good old-fashioned fear of the unknown. Or it could be that employees are concerned about their skillset and not being qualified in dealing with the latest technology or modernistic systems. This could be a great exercise to identify areas for development to raise staff morale whilst ultimately driving your company forward to the next level.
Digital transformation cannot happen overnight, and due diligence should be practised at every juncture in this exciting, new way of working.
